From Portland Head Light, head northeast on Shore Rd toward Fort Williams Park. Continue straight onto Shore Rd for about 0.5 miles. Turn left onto ME-77 N (also known as Ocean St) and continue for about 2.5 miles. Then, turn right onto Bug Light Park, which is located near the water in South Portland. The park has a parking area where you can leave your car. Note: There may be parking fees depending on the time of year.
Public Transportation
From Portland Head Light, walk to the nearest bus stop located at the entrance of Fort Williams Park. Take the South Portland Bus Line (Metro Bus) Route 21 towards South Portland. Ride the bus for approximately 20 minutes, and get off at the stop designated for Bug Light Park. The park is a short walk from the bus stop. Make sure to check the current bus schedule for any possible changes in timing.
Bicycle
For those who prefer cycling, you can bike from Portland Head Light to Bug Light Park. Start on Shore Rd and head northeast for about 0.5 miles. Continue onto ME-77 N (Ocean St) and follow the bike lanes for about 2.5 miles. Once you reach South Portland, follow the signs to Bug Light Park. There are bike racks available at the park for secure parking. Ensure you have a helmet and follow all biking safety rules.
Walking
If you prefer walking and have the time, you can walk from Portland Head Light to Bug Light Park. The distance is approximately 3 miles. Start by heading northeast on Shore Rd, then continue straight onto ME-77 N (Ocean St). Follow the pedestrian paths along the road until you reach Bug Light Park. This scenic walk will take you through beautiful coastal views and may take around 1 hour.
