If you are in downtown Saco, head north on Main Street towards the Saco River. Continue straight until you reach the riverbank, then turn left onto the riverwalk path. Follow this path until you reach the Saco Island Bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the path until you reach the intersection with Franklin Street. Turn left onto Franklin Street and continue straight. Eventually, you will merge onto Route 1 South. Continue walking until you reach Portland, approximately 8 miles. Once in Portland, head towards the waterfront area and follow the signs to Fort Gorges, located on the water.

From Saco, walk to the nearest bus stop on Main Street. Take the York County Community Action bus towards Portland. It’s approximately a 30-minute bus ride. Get off at the Portland Transportation Center. From there, you can either walk or take a local bus towards the waterfront area. Follow the signs to Fort Gorges, which is on an island accessible by a short boat ride or kayak rental from the nearby docks.
