Car
If you are driving, start on Route 27 in Sugarloaf Mountain. Head south on Route 27 towards Carrabassett Valley. After approximately 10 miles, you will reach the intersection with West Mountain Road. Turn left onto West Mountain Road. Continue for about 2 miles until you reach a small parking area at the trailhead for the Appalachian Trail. Park your car here. The AT Campsite is approximately a 1.5-mile hike from this point. Follow the Appalachian Trail northbound, and you will arrive at the campsite.
Public Transportation
Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to the AT Campsite. However, you can take a bus to the nearest major town, which is Farmington, Maine. From there, you will need to arrange a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Sugarloaf Mountain. Once in Sugarloaf, you will still need to hike to the campsite as detailed above. Be sure to check with local bus services for schedules and costs, as these can vary.
Hiking
After parking at the trailhead on West Mountain Road, prepare for a moderate hike. The trail is well-marked, but be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and carry water. Follow the Appalachian Trail signs, and look out for trail markers along the way. The hike to the AT Campsite should take about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on your pace. Enjoy the scenic views as you approach the campsite.
