Getting There

  • Car

    From Dedza town, head south on the M1 highway. Continue for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Mtakataka. Turn left onto the road leading to Mtakataka. Drive for about 10 kilometers until you reach the village of Mtakataka. The Dedza-Salima Forest Reserve is located just outside of Mtakataka, following the signs for QCMR+4RR. Be prepared for some unpaved roads as you approach the forest reserve.

    From Dedza town, take a minibus heading towards Salima. The minibuses leave frequently from the Dedza bus station. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Mtakataka. Upon arrival at Mtakataka, you may need to walk or hire a local taxi to reach the Dedza-Salima Forest Reserve, which is located approximately 5 kilometers from the town center. Expect to pay around 1,000 MWK for the taxi.

    If you're already in Mtakataka, you can walk to the Dedza-Salima Forest Reserve. Head west from the village center towards the signs for QCMR+4RR.
