Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're driving, head towards the M5 road which runs along Lake Malawi's coast. If you're coming from the north (e.g., Nkhata Bay), take the M5 south until you reach Kande Beach Resort located approximately 30 kilometers south of the town of Nkhata Bay. Look for signs directing you to Kande Beach Resort. The resort is situated near the beach and should be easy to spot from the road.
Public Transportation - Minibus
To reach Kande Beach Resort by minibus, you can catch a minibus from major towns like Nkhata Bay or Mzuzu heading south along the M5 road. Ask the driver to drop you off at Kande Beach Resort or near the Kande area. The fare is typically around 500 to 1000 Malawian Kwacha (MWK) depending on your starting point. Once you are dropped off, it is a short walk to the resort along the beach.
Public Transportation - Taxi
Alternatively, if you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from nearby towns like Nkhata Bay or Mzuzu. This option is more expensive, usually costing between 10,000 to 20,000 MWK, but it will take you directly to Kande Beach Resort. Ensure to negotiate the fare with the driver before starting your journey.
Boat
If you're looking for a unique experience and are starting from other resorts along the lake, consider taking a boat. Some resorts may offer boat transfers to Kande Beach Resort. This option can vary in price, typically around 5,000 to 15,000 MWK per person, depending on the distance and the boat operator. Check in advance with your current accommodation if they provide this service.
