From Lilongwe Plain, head southeast on the main road (M1) towards the area of Bunda. Continue on M1 for approximately 30 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating Bunda Mountain; you will need to take a right turn onto a smaller road that leads directly to the mountain. The entire journey should take around 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition, as some parts of the road may be uneven.
Public Transportation
Take a minibus from the Lilongwe bus station heading towards Bunda. The fare is usually around 1,000 MWK (Malawian Kwacha). Inform the driver you are going to Bunda Mountain. The minibus will drop you off at the nearest point to the mountain, which is about a 10-15 minute walk away. Be prepared to pay a small fee for entry to the hiking area, typically around 500 MWK.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct option, hiring a taxi can be a convenient way to reach Bunda Mountain. Negotiate a fare before starting the journey; it should range from 10,000 MWK to 15,000 MWK for a round trip. The taxi will take you directly to the base of Bunda Mountain, and you can arrange for the driver to wait for you while you hike.
