Getting There

• Car

  Start your journey from the center of Livingstonia. Head south on the main road (M1) toward the direction of Lake Malawi. After approximately 10 km, look for the turnoff for the Vinthukutu Forest Reserve, which is marked with a sign. Turn onto the gravel road and continue straight for about 5 km until you reach the entrance to the Vinthukutu Forest Reserve. Note that the gravel road may be rough, so drive cautiously. There may be a small entrance fee to the reserve, so be prepared with cash.

• Public Transportation

  From the center of Livingstonia, locate the minibus station. Take a minibus heading towards the nearest village that is closest to Vinthukutu Forest Reserve. You may need to ask the driver or locals for the best stop, as minibuses may not go directly to the reserve. Once you get off at the village, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to take you to the entrance of the Vinthukutu Forest Reserve. Be sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Vinthukutu Forest Reserve, you can walk to the entrance. From Livingstonia, head towards the main road and look for the signs directing you to the reserve. It is a trek of about 7-10 km depending on your starting point, so ensure you wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water. Walking through the local landscape will provide a unique experience of the area.
