Car
If you are driving from Mzuzu, take the M1 road south towards Lilongwe. After approximately 90 km, you will reach the town of Nkhotakota. Here, turn onto the B6 road towards Chitipa. Follow this road for about 50 km until you see signs for Mkulumadzi Lodge. The lodge is located near Chavara and is accessible via a dirt road leading off the B6. Be aware that parts of this road may require a 4x4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season. There is no parking fee at the lodge.
Public Transport
To reach Mkulumadzi Lodge by public transport, start by taking a minibus from Mzuzu to Nkhotakota, which should cost around 1,500 MWK. Upon arrival in Nkhotakota, you will need to find another minibus heading towards Chitipa. This leg of the journey may take an additional 1.5 hours and cost about 1,000 MWK. Once you reach the nearest stop to Mkulumadzi Lodge, you can either walk the remaining distance (approximately 3 km) or hire a local taxi if available, which may charge around 2,000 MWK for the short trip to the lodge.
Taxi
For those who prefer a more comfortable option, consider hiring a taxi from Mzuzu directly to Mkulumadzi Lodge. This will cost around 25,000 MWK for the journey, which takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand and confirm that the taxi driver is familiar with the route to Mkulumadzi Lodge, as some drivers may not know the exact location.
