    Car

    If you are traveling by car from any location in Shire Valley, start by heading towards the nearest major town, either Chikwawa or Nsanje. From Chikwawa, take the M1 road heading north. Continue on the M1 for approximately 45 kilometers until you reach the junction with the road leading to Mangochi. Turn right onto the road towards Mangochi. After about 30 kilometers, you will see signs for Lake Malawi. Follow the signs which will lead you towards the lake's various access points. Make sure to have a map or GPS for assistance, as the roads may not always be well-marked. Fuel stations are available in both Chikwawa and Nsanje, so refuel before you head out.

    Public Transportation (Minibus)

    To reach Lake Malawi using public transportation, start at the nearest minibus station in Chikwawa or Nsanje. From there, catch a minibus heading towards Mangochi. The ride typically costs around 1,500 MWK and will take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. When you reach Mangochi, you may need to hire a local taxi or take another minibus that goes directly to the lakeshore. The taxi fare to the lake from Mangochi may vary but expect to pay around 2,000 MWK. Be sure to ask the driver to drop you off at a specific beach or resort along the lake.
