Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Lilongwe. Head north on the M1 highway towards Nkhotakota. Continue on M1 for approximately 240 kilometers (around 3-4 hours depending on traffic). As you approach Nkhotakota, look for signs directing you to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. Once you reach the reserve entrance, follow the signs to Bua River Lodge, which is located within the reserve. The lodge is approximately 15 kilometers from the reserve entrance, and the road may be unpaved and bumpy, so drive carefully.
Public Transportation (Minibus)
For those using public transportation, catch a minibus from Lilongwe to Nkhotakota at the Lilongwe bus station. The fare is typically around 2,000 MWK and the journey takes about 4-5 hours. Upon arrival in Nkhotakota, you can hire a taxi or arrange for a local guide to take you to Bua River Lodge. Inform the driver that you want to go to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, and they should be able to help you reach the lodge.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route and have arrived in Nkhotakota, consider hiring a taxi to take you to Bua River Lodge. The taxi ride from Nkhotakota town to the lodge should cost around 5,000 MWK. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand and confirm that the driver is familiar with the lodge's location within Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.
