Car
If you are driving, start from Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah. Take the E1 highway and head southeast towards Lahad Datu. The drive is about 6-7 hours long, covering approximately 400 kilometers. Once you reach Lahad Datu, follow the signs towards the Danum Valley Conservation Area. You'll need to take the Borneo Rainforest Lodge Road, which is about 38 kilometers from Lahad Datu. Note that this road can be rough and may require a 4WD vehicle. Ensure you have enough fuel, as there are limited gas stations along the way.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey takes around 7-8 hours. Once you arrive in Lahad Datu, you can hire a taxi or book a shuttle service to the Danum Valley Conservation Area. The shuttle services may need to be arranged in advance through your accommodation or a local travel agency. Expect to pay around RM 100-150 for the taxi or shuttle service, depending on the number of passengers.
