Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Alor Setar, the capital city of Kedah. From Alor Setar, head east on Jalan Kuala Kedah towards Jalan Sultan Badlishah. Merge onto the North-South Expressway (E1) and continue driving for about 30 kilometers. Take the exit 183 towards Kuala Nerang, and follow signs towards Kuala Nerang. Once in Kuala Nerang, navigate to the address '06300 Kuala Nerang, Kedah'. From the town center, follow local signs or GPS to reach the Puncak Janing Waterfall, which is approximately 15 kilometers away and will require driving on smaller roads. Make sure to have a reliable GPS or map application, as some of these roads can be narrow and winding.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Alor Setar to Kuala Nerang. Buses depart regularly from the Alor Setar Bus Terminal, and the journey takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Once you arrive in Kuala Nerang, you can either hire a taxi or look for local ride-sharing services to take you to Puncak Janing Waterfall. Ensure you confirm the fare with the taxi driver before starting your journey, as it may vary depending on the distance and time. The waterfall is about 15 kilometers from the bus station, so the taxi fare may range between RM 20 to RM 30.
Walking
If you are adventurous and fit, consider walking from Kuala Nerang to Puncak Janing Waterfall. However, this is only recommended for experienced hikers due to the distance and terrain. The approximate walking distance is around 15 kilometers, and it could take 3 to 4 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear, carry enough water, and be mindful of the weather conditions. Walking can provide a unique experience of the local nature and culture along the way.
