Getting There
-
Bus
To reach Penang Hill by bus, head to the nearest bus stop and catch either Bus 204 or Bus 201. Both buses depart from the Komtar Bus Terminal, which is a major transport hub in George Town. If you're starting from a different location, you can take a local bus to get to Komtar. Once on Bus 204 or 201, enjoy the scenic ride to the Penang Hill stop. The bus will drop you off at the base of Penang Hill, where you will see signs directing you to the Penang Hill Funicular Railway station. From there, purchase your tickets for the funicular train that will take you up to the summit of Penang Hill.
-
Tram
After arriving at the base of Penang Hill via bus, locate the Penang Hill Funicular Railway station. The station is clearly marked and accessible. Purchase a ticket for the funicular, which is the most popular mode of transport to the top. The funicular train runs every 30 minutes, so check the schedule posted at the station. The ride up takes approximately 5-10 minutes and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape as you ascend. Once you reach the top, you'll be greeted with stunning vistas of Georgetown and the coastline.
-
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and are physically fit, you can opt to hike up to Penang Hill instead of taking the funicular. Start your journey at the base of Penang Hill at the entrance of the Botanical Gardens. Follow the well-marked hiking trail which winds its way up through the lush greenery. The hike is approximately 2.5 kilometers and can take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Along the way, there are rest areas and stunning viewpoints to take pictures. Once you reach the top, enjoy the various attractions and panoramic views.
