  • Ferry

    From Velana International Airport (MLE) or Malé, the primary mode of transport to Gaafaru is via ferry. There is no direct connection; travelers must first take a ferry to Himmafushi and then proceed to Gaafaru. The ferry to Himmafushi takes approximately 50 minutes and costs around $62. From Himmafushi, you will need to find local transport to Gaafaru. Alternatively, a public ferry operated by MTCC offers a budget-friendly option at around $5 per person, but the journey can take over 3 hours. These ferries typically depart from Malé on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 11:00 AM, with return ferries from Gaafaru on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 09:00 AM. Check the MTCC website for the most up-to-date schedules.

  • Speedboat

    For a faster and more direct route, consider a speedboat transfer from Malé. Vella Express and Bream Speed offer speedboat services for approximately $35 per passenger, with a journey time of 60-75 minutes. These speedboats usually depart around 3:30 PM daily, except on Fridays. Private speedboats can also be arranged, costing around $200 for two people or $50 per person for a group of four. Note that prices may increase during rough weather conditions.

    Once you arrive on Gaafaru Island, the best way to get around is on foot. The island is small and sandy, with no motorable roads. You can easily walk from one side of the island to the other in about 15-20 minutes.
