Muliaage, located in the Henveiru ward of Malé, has been the official residence of the President of the Maldives for many years. Its construction, commissioned by Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III for his son Prince Hassan Izzuddin, began in 1914 and concluded in 1919. The palace was designed by Ahmed Dhoshimeyna Kilegefan. The building's architecture reflects the colonial bungalows prevalent in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) during that era. The palace stands on the site of Mulee'ge, the ancestral home of Shamsuddeen. Muliaage translates to "new house of Muli". Over the years, Muliaage has served various functions, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister's office. It briefly served as the Presidential Palace during the First Republic in 1953 and was later declared the Presidential Palace again in 1968. In 2009, it was re-established as the official presidential residence. Visitors can admire the intricate carvings and vibrant colors of the exterior. The surrounding gardens provide a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. Muliaage is near other significant landmarks such as the Medhu Ziyaaraiy, the Malé Friday Mosque, and the Munnaru.
