Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Seaplane
The most common way to reach Faarufushi Island is via seaplane from Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. Upon arrival at Malé airport, a resort representative will greet you and escort you to the seaplane terminal. The scenic seaplane journey takes approximately 45-50 minutes. Seaplane transfers are typically arranged by the resort. A return seaplane transfer costs around $590 for adults and $360 for children. Private seaplane transfers are available at an additional cost.
Domestic Flight and Speedboat
An alternative to seaplane transfer involves a domestic flight from Velana International Airport (MLE) to Ifuru Airport (IFU), followed by a 5-minute speedboat ride to Faarufushi Island. The domestic flight to Ifuru Airport takes approximately 35-40 minutes. Upon arrival at Ifuru Airport, a resort representative will escort you to the speedboat. This option is convenient for evening international flights. The cost for a roundtrip domestic flight and speedboat transfer is generally less than a seaplane. However, Emerald Faarufushi currently does not recommend domestic transfers.
