Walking

Muliaage is located in the heart of Malé, making it easily accessible on foot from many points in the city center. From the Male' Fish Market, walk east along Medhuziyaaraiy Magu. The palace will be on your left, near the Friday Mosque. No costs are involved.

Muliaage Palace, situated in the historic center of Malé, stands as a testament to the Maldives' rich history and evolving identity. Constructed between 1914 and 1919, the palace was commissioned by Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III for his son, Prince Hassan Izzuddin. The building's design, reminiscent of colonial-era bungalows in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), reflects a blend of local and foreign influences.Originally intended as the residence for the returning Prince, Muliaage has since served various purposes, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Prime Minister's office, and even the Supreme Court. In 1953, it was officially declared the Presidential Palace during the First Republic. Today, it functions as the official residence of the President of the Maldives, hosting distinguished guests and serving as a symbol of the nation's leadership.While visitors are unable to enter the palace grounds, the exterior provides a captivating glimpse into Maldivian architecture and history.
