Mali National Park, a 103-hectare (250-acre) oasis within a larger 2,100-hectare (5,180-acre) protected forest, provides a vital greenbelt for Bamako. Developed through a public-private partnership, the park integrates the National Museum, a botanical garden, and a zoo into a single cultural and ecological space. The park features a comprehensive network of pedestrian paths and formal promenades. Visitors can enjoy fitness, jogging, cycling, and mountaineering tracks, as well as interpretive trails highlighting the local botany, birds, and nature. The park's design, led in part by architect Diébédo Francis Kéré, includes entry buildings, a youth and sports center, a restaurant, public toilets, and kiosks, all constructed with local stone to blend with the environment. Open spaces and gardens showcase indigenous flora, from open lawns to flower gardens, wooded areas, and a medicinal garden. The park also aims to educate visitors through interpretive signs and trained guides. Since opening in 2010, Mali National Park has become a popular destination, attracting an average of 500,000 visitors each year. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in nature, learn about Malian culture, and enjoy a peaceful escape from the city.
