Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Birgu, head east on Triq Sant' Anna towards the waterfront. Continue straight to the waterfront promenade, which is called Triq Il-Lanterna. Follow the promenade until you reach the end, where you will see the entrance to the Kalkara waterfront. Once you reach the end of the promenade, turn left and follow the road along the coast. You will pass by some beautiful views of the harbor. Continue walking along the road until you see signs pointing towards Fort Rinella. The fort is located in Kalkara, which is about a 20-30 minute walk from Birgu.

  • Bus

    From Birgu, walk to the nearest bus stop on Triq Il-Lanterna. Take bus number 81 towards Valletta and get off at the Kalkara stop. After getting off, walk along Triq Il-Gardiel and follow the signs directing you to Fort Rinella. It’s a short 10-minute walk from the bus stop to the fort.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer not to walk or take the bus, you can easily arrange a taxi from any point in Birgu. Simply ask your hotel or any local to call a taxi for you, or use a local taxi app. Provide the driver with the destination 'Fort Rinella in Kalkara.'
