The Valletta Design Cluster (VDC) is a vibrant hub for creativity, design, and community engagement, located in the heart of Valletta. Situated in the renovated Old Abattoir (Il-Biċċerija l-Antika), a building with a rich history dating back to the 17th century, the VDC serves as a bridge between Valletta's past and its future. Originally built as a slaughterhouse, the building later served as residences, soldiers' barracks, and even housed bakeries. After years of neglect, the Old Abattoir has been transformed into a modern space for innovation, retaining historical elements while integrating contemporary design features. The VDC provides resources and areas for co-working, a makerspace, meeting rooms, conference facilities, and studios. A key feature is the publicly accessible roof garden, offering panoramic views of the city and the sea. The VDC hosts exhibitions, workshops, pop-up markets, and collaborative projects, fostering a dynamic environment for artists, designers, and entrepreneurs. It aims to promote user-centered design and create positive impacts for communities and individuals.
