Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Valletta, take bus line 74 to the 'Hagar, Il-Qrendi' stop. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 9 minutes and costs €3. From the Blue Grotto, take bus line 201 to the 'Bajjada, Is-Siggiewi' stop. The journey takes about 36 minutes and also costs €3. From either bus stop, you may need to walk or take a local taxi to reach Ghar Lapsi, which is approximately 2 km away.

  • Taxi

    A taxi from Valletta to Ghar Lapsi takes approximately 18 minutes. A taxi from Blue Grotto takes approximately 6 minutes. Taxi fares are variable, but expect to pay around €20-€30 from Valletta. There are usually taxis available at the Blue Grotto.

  • Driving

    If driving from Blue Grotto, head north on Triq il-Kantra towards Triq il-Gvern. After approximately 1.4 km, turn left onto Triq Sant'Antnin. Continue on this road for about 1.6 km. Follow the signs for Siġġiewi and then Ghar Lapsi. Parking is available near the divesite. Parking fees may apply.

Ghar Lapsi, also known as Ascension Cave, is a premier diving and swimming spot located on the south coast of Malta, close to Siġġiewi. This rocky inlet is one of the few places on the southern coastline where you can easily enter the sea from the shore. The area is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, diverse marine life, and stunning underwater topography, making it a must-visit for divers and snorkelers of all levels. The main attraction is the 40-meter long cave system, featuring multiple cracks and openings that allow sunlight to filter through, creating a mesmerizing play of light on the corals. Divers can explore various reefs, including Finger Reef, Middle Reef, and Black John, each offering unique underwater landscapes. Finger Reef has a small cave with a hole in its roof, while Middle Reef is the shallowest, with a maximum depth of 12 meters. Black John is the deepest of the Ghar Lapsi dive sites. Divers can also discover an underwater nativity scene (Crib) located under an overhang on the outer reef. Ghar Lapsi is not only a diving hotspot but also a great place for swimming and snorkeling. The tranquil and scenic surroundings make it perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. The area offers amenities such as parking, a cafe/restaurant, toilets, and a police station.
