Discover more about Blue Hole Viewpoint

The Blue Hole is a natural wonder located on the west coast of Gozo, in the Dwejra Bay area. Situated in the village of San Lawrenz, it's a popular destination known for its unique geological formations and clear waters. The Blue Hole is a large, circular rock pool about 10 meters in diameter and approximately 15 meters deep. Formed by centuries of wave power and wind energy, the Blue Hole is essentially a collapsed sea cave. This natural sinkhole features steep, vertical walls and a sudden drop in depth, creating a mesmerizing dark blue circle surrounded by lighter, shallower water. Divers and snorkelers are drawn to the Blue Hole because of its underwater archway that leads to the open sea. This archway provides easy access to the Mediterranean and allows for exploration of the diverse marine life and underwater rock formations. Just a few meters from the shore, the Blue Hole is easily accessible. A shallow water shelf provides a sheltered entry point, making it suitable for both novice and experienced divers. The site is home to various species of fish and coral, including John Dory, Moray Eels, sea urchins, and anemones. The Blue Hole is also located near other attractions, including the Inland Sea and Fungus Rock. Although the Azure Window, a famous natural arch, collapsed into the sea in 2017, the underwater debris has created a unique reef that adds to the diving experience.
