Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum: A Journey into Malta's Prehistoric Depths

The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, located in Paola, Malta, is a fascinating and mysterious archaeological site dating back to the Neolithic period (3300-3000 BC). The Hypogeum, meaning "underground" in Greek, is a subterranean structure that served as both a sanctuary and a necropolis. Some chambers feature ceilings with carved stone rings, imitating the corbelled masonry roofs of above-ground temples.
