Ta' Kenuna Tower, perched on a hill near Nadur, Gozo, is a historical sentinel with stunning views. Built in 1848 by the British, it served as a crucial link in Malta's semaphore telegraph system, relaying signals between Gozo and Malta. The name 'Ta' Kenuna' possibly derives from 'kenur,' a place where signal fires were lit in ancient times. The tower's strategic location, 130 meters above sea level, allowed for clear communication with other signal stations. The system became obsolete with the advent of the electric telegraph, and the tower closed in 1883. For a brief period, the public could send messages for a fee. During World War II, the area was damaged when a German plane crashed nearby. In 2005, the Nadur Local Council and Maltacom (now GO) restored the tower. Today, it houses a beacon to warn ships and communication antennas. Visitors can often gain access to the rooftop for panoramic views of Gozo, Comino, and Malta.Surrounding the tower is a small botanical garden showcasing plants native to the Maltese Islands. The tower and gardens provide a tranquil escape with historical and natural beauty.**Please note:** As of March 2025, Ta' Kenuna Tower and Gardens are closed to the public due to structural concerns caused by cliff erosion.
