This picturesque promenade is set against the backdrop of Valletta's Grand Harbour, offering stunning views of Fort St. Angelo, Fort Ricasoli, and the Three Cities.The waterfront's iconic buildings, originally constructed as warehouses in 1752 by Grand Master Manuel Pinto de Fonseca, showcase a rich Baroque design attributed to Andrea Belli. These warehouses, known as the Pinto Stores, were built to boost harbor activities and serve as storage for the Knights of Malta and other merchants. The doors of these stores are painted in different colors, each symbolizing the type of goods that were once stored within: blue for fish, green for agricultural products, yellow for wheat, and red for wine.Throughout its history, the Valletta Waterfront has been a bustling hub of maritime activity. It suffered damage during World War II due to its proximity to the Malta Dockyard, but has since been restored and renovated. Today, the waterfront is a popular destination for cruise passengers and tourists, offering a variety of restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment venues. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the promenade, dine al fresco, and soak in the atmosphere of this historic harbor. The area also hosts various events, including the Malta Jazz Festival and the Malta Fireworks Festival.In the middle of the waterfront stands the quaint Chapel of the Flight to Egypt by the Holy Family, constructed in 1752 along with the stores. The chapel, which was also damaged during WWII and faithfully restored, hosts intimate classical concerts and wedding celebrations.
