  • Public Transport

    From Valletta, take bus 51, 52 or 53 to Rabat. From the Rabat bus terminus, take bus 181 or 56 towards Buskett. The Buskett bus stop is directly accessible on routes 52, 56 and 181. The bus fare is approximately €1.50.

    From Valletta, follow the signs to Mdina/Rabat. Continue towards Siġġiewi. Buskett Woods is located near Siġġiewi, and signposts will direct you. Parking is available at the site. There is no entrance fee.

Buskett Woods, often called the 'lungs of Malta,' is a unique and historically significant woodland area. Planted in the 16th century by the Knights of St. John, it served as a hunting ground and later as a summer residence for the Grand Master. The name 'Buskett' comes from the Italian word 'boschetto', meaning 'small wood'.Today, Buskett is a protected area renowned for its rich biodiversity and tranquil atmosphere. The woods are home to a variety of trees, including holm oak, Aleppo pine, olive, and citrus trees, supporting diverse wildlife. Lucky visitors might spot painted frogs, hedgehogs, and chameleons. Birdwatchers will find it an ornithologist's paradise, especially during migration seasons.The adjacent Verdala Palace, built in 1586, adds historical charm to the area. Originally a hunting lodge, it now serves as the summer residence of Malta's President. Visitors can explore walking trails, enjoy picnics in designated areas, and immerse themselves in the serene natural beauty. The annual Imnarja Festival on June 29th brings the woods alive with traditional Maltese celebrations.
