Discover more about Dingli Cliffs

Dingli Cliffs present a stunning natural spectacle on Malta's western coast. Rising dramatically from the Mediterranean Sea, these cliffs reach an elevation of 253 meters, the highest point in Malta. The area is named after Sir Thomas Dingley, an English knight who owned the land in the 16th century. Visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, the petite terraced fields below, and the uninhabited island of Filfla. The cliffs have served various purposes throughout history, from a natural defense in the Bronze Age to a lookout point for the British Royal Navy in the 19th century. Farmers once cultivated the land on the terraced slopes, a practice evidenced by the stepped terraces visible today. Today, Dingli Cliffs offer a serene escape and a chance to connect with nature. Walking trails along the cliff tops provide picturesque experiences, with benches inviting visitors to relax and soak in the scenery. The Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, a small, historic chapel built in 1646, sits on the cliff edge, offering a striking landmark against the vast backdrop. The area is particularly popular for sunset viewing, when the sky and sea merge in a blaze of color.
