Discover more about Golden Bay

Golden Bay, known in Maltese as Ir-Ramla tal-Mixquqa, meaning 'The Sandy Bay of the Cracked (promontory),' is one of Malta's most beloved sandy beaches. Situated on the northwest coast, close to Għajn Tuffieħa, it is easily accessible and offers a picturesque landscape that attracts visitors year-round. The beach is characterized by its wide expanse of golden-reddish sand, a result of the bay's unique geological composition. The clear, shallow waters make it ideal for swimming and snorkeling, especially near the rocky edges where marine life thrives. The bay is surrounded by high hills and natural dunes, providing shelter from the winds and creating a tranquil atmosphere. On the left side of the bay stands a historic watchtower, constructed during the era of the Knights of Malta, adding a touch of historical charm to the scenic views. To the right, the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa enhances the location's appeal with its prominent design. Golden Bay has a rich history, having once been known as Military Bay during the British Services period from 1800 to 1964 when the area behind the Radisson Blu hotel was used as a training facility. Legend also has it that the bay was a popular spot for smugglers, who utilized its hidden coves and caves for their activities. Today, Golden Bay is a Blue Flag certified beach, ensuring high standards of safety, cleanliness, and environmental management. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months, and the beach is wheelchair accessible, making it inclusive for all visitors. Besides swimming and sunbathing, visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports, including jet skiing, sea kayaking, and boat tours. The beach is also a popular spot for evening barbecues and sunset gatherings, offering a perfect way to end a summer day.
