Discover more about Ġnejna Bay

Nestled on Malta's northwest coast, close to the village of Mġarr, Ġnejna Bay is a beloved swimming spot famous for its stunning clay slopes, unique orange sands, and crystal-clear waters. It is one of the most unspoiled beaches on the island. The bay is surrounded by distinctive red clay slopes to the south and rocky headlands to the north. The beach offers a gentle descent into the azure sea, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The waters are known for their exceptional clarity, with visibility extending several meters on calm days. Above the bay, a rocky outcrop hosts the Ta' Lippija Tower, constructed in 1637 as part of the Knights of St. John's coastal defense network. The tower once communicated with other watchtowers to warn of approaching corsairs. To the east of the bay, handmade boathouses are carved into the soft limestone cliffs and used by local fishermen. While offering basic amenities like snack bars and umbrella rentals during the summer, Ġnejna Bay retains a wilder, more natural feel. The surrounding area provides excellent hiking opportunities, including trails along the clay slopes and coastal paths to nearby bays.
