Discover more about Wied il-Mielaħ Window

The Wied il-Mielaħ Window, or it-Tieqa ta' Wied il-Mielaħ in Maltese, is a natural limestone arch on the north-western coast of Gozo. Situated at the end of the Wied il-Mielaħ Valley, north of Għarb, this geological formation has become a notable attraction, especially after the collapse of the Azure Window in Dwejra in March 2017. Formed over millennia by wind and water erosion, the arch is primarily composed of limestone. The relentless action of natural forces has sculpted this extraordinary arch, making it a testament to nature's artistry. The surrounding environment features diverse vegetation typical of the Mediterranean region, with hardy shrubs and aromatic herbs thriving in the coastal conditions. Birdwatchers can also spot various seabird species in the area. Visitors can explore the area on foot via designated pathways that offer panoramic views of the arch and coastline. The valley itself is ideal for exploration, especially in spring and autumn when the landscape is vibrant with natural flowers. Divers can explore the underwater environment, with boat access to diving spots beneath the arch. A large cave with an air pocket is located near the arch, with a 30-meter reef to the west. The site has undergone environmental rehabilitation, including the construction of a new sewage treatment plant to address past wastewater issues.
