Il-Lunzjata Chapel and Valley, located near Kerċem on the island of Gozo, is a picturesque sanctuary blending natural beauty with historical significance. The valley has been an important agricultural area since the time of the Knights of Malta. Today, local farmers continue to cultivate the land, adding to the valley's charm. The Chapel of the Annunciation, or Lunzjata Chapel, is a small Roman Catholic church built into a cave within the valley. Its origins trace back to at least 1347, with records indicating its establishment by Dona Sibila of Aragon. The chapel's administration passed through the nobility of Aragon and Sicily before the Knights Hospitaller took over in 1530. Rebuilt in 1629 and restored after World War II, the chapel was consecrated in 1959. Inside, visitors can view the titular painting depicting the Annunciation of Jesus, created by Luca Garnier. The valley itself is verdant and lush, fed by natural springs that flow into the Xlendi Valley. The calming sound of running water enhances the peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for relaxing country walks. A notable feature is the 17th-century fountain, commissioned by Grand Master Ramon Perellos y Roccaful in 1698, which provides fresh spring water.
