Discover more about Gozo Channel

The Gozo Channel is more than just a ferry service; it's a lifeline connecting the islands of Malta and Gozo, with a history rooted in facilitating travel and trade for centuries. Officially established in 1979 as the Gozo Channel Company Limited, it evolved from earlier services, including those by E. Zammit & Sons Ltd. The company maintains, develops, and operates a sea transport service to and from Malta, Gozo, and elsewhere. The ferry service operates around the clock, every day of the year, including weekends and public holidays. The modern fleet consists of three Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) vessels, the M.V. Ta' Pinu, M.V. Gaudos, and M.V. Malita, introduced between 2000 and 2002. These ferries accommodate passengers, vehicles, and freight, making them essential for both locals and tourists. The Gozo Channel's history dates back to the 13th century, with the first recorded maritime connection between Malta and Gozo. In 1885, the first regular passenger service was inaugurated by O.F. Gollcher & Sons Ltd with the vessel Gleneagles. Over the years, the service has seen various operators and vessels, evolving to meet the increasing demands of travel and tourism. Today, the Gozo Channel continues to play a vital role in connecting the communities, cultures, and economies of Malta and Gozo.
