Getting there

Public Transport

From Valletta, take bus line 41, 42, 49 or 250 towards Ċirkewwa or Għadira Bay. Get off at the 'Snajjin' or 'Adenau' bus stop near Xemxija. From the bus stop, it's a short walk down to Mistra Bay. A single bus ticket costs €2.50.

Walking

If you are coming from Xemxija, follow the main road towards Mellieħa. Look for the detour sign to Mistra Bay. The walk is approximately 15-20 minutes from Xemxija, offering scenic views of the coastline. Note that the road down to the bay is steep in places.

Taxi/Ride-share

Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available in Malta. A taxi ride from Buġibba to Mistra Bay typically costs around €15-€20 and takes approximately 10 minutes. Ensure the driver knows the exact location, as it's a relatively secluded bay.

Driving

From Mellieha, follow the road towards Xemxija. Look for the Mistra Bay sign and take the detour. Free parking is available near the bay, but spaces are limited, especially during peak season. Consider arriving early to secure a spot. Street parking is also available.

Mistra Bay, situated on the northeastern coast of Malta, is a peaceful haven away from the island's more crowded tourist spots. Located between the villages of Xemxija and Mellieħa, this bay is known for its calm waters, scenic views and historical significance.Archaeological evidence suggests the area was inhabited as early as 4,000 B.C. Caves nearby were likely used during the Phoenician period for shelter and burial. During the Knights of St. John era (16th-18th centuries), Mistra Bay held strategic importance. The Knights built fortifications to defend against Ottoman and pirate invasions. The Mistra Battery, constructed in 1761, is a well-preserved example of this.Today, Mistra Bay maintains its quiet charm and is popular with locals. The bay's mix of pebble and sand shoreline is framed by cliffs and vegetation, making it ideal for sunbathing and picnics. The clear waters are suitable for swimming and snorkeling.Visitors can explore the Mistra Battery, offering views of the bay. A short walk along the coast leads to Selmun Chapel. Though amenities are limited, a restaurant near the bay serves fresh seafood.
