Walking
Start from the Upper Barracca Gardens, which is a popular viewpoint in Valletta. Exit the gardens and walk towards the main road, Triq Il-Lvant. Turn left onto Triq Il-Lvant and proceed straight. After about 500 meters, you will reach the end of the road where it intersects with Triq Sant'Anna. Turn right onto Triq Sant'Anna and continue until you reach the waterfront. At the waterfront, you will see the ferry terminal. From there, you can catch a ferry to Birgu, which is a short and scenic ride across the Grand Harbour. Once you arrive in Birgu, disembark and walk straight up Triq Il-Kottonera. Notre Dame Gate will be on your left side after a short walk.
Public Transport (Bus)
From Republic Street, find the nearest bus stop and take the bus towards Birgu. The bus line number 81 or 82 will take you to Birgu. The journey will take approximately 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Birgu, get off at the stop closest to the waterfront, then walk towards Triq Il-Kottonera. As you walk along the main thoroughfare, keep an eye out for Notre Dame Gate, which will be along your route. It is a short 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Valletta to Birgu. Taxis can be found at designated taxi stands throughout Valletta, such as near the City Gate or the Lower Barracca Gardens. Inform the driver that you want to go to Notre Dame Gate in Birgu. The drive should take about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic. Upon arrival, you may need to walk a short distance to reach the entrance of Notre Dame Gate.
