Car
From Antietam National Battlefield, get onto US-40 E from Sharpsburg Pike (MD-34). Follow US-40 E for approximately 4 miles, then merge onto I-70 E toward Baltimore. Continue on I-70 E for about 17 miles. Take exit 24 for I-495 N toward Silver Spring. After about 6 miles, take exit 41 for MacArthur Blvd. Continue on MacArthur Blvd for about 2 miles. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park will be on your right at 11710 Macarthur Blvd, Potomac, MD 20854.

From Antietam National Battlefield, you will need to drive or take a taxi/rideshare to the nearest public transportation station. Head to the Hagerstown Transit Bus Terminal. From there, take the 1B bus toward the Hagerstown City Park. Transfer at the Hagerstown City Park to the 5 bus toward Washington, D.C. This will take you to the Shady Grove Metro Station. From Shady Grove, take the Red Line toward Glenmont, getting off at the Rockville station. From there, you can take a taxi or rideshare to reach the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park at 11710 Macarthur Blvd, Potomac, MD 20854. Be prepared for potential costs for bus and metro fares, which can total around $5-$10 depending on the distance and transfers.
