Virginia Monument: A Tribute to Valor in Gettysburg

Getting There

• Bus

  From Hagerstown, walk to the Hagerstown Transit bus stop located at 100 E Washington St. Board the 'Route 78' bus heading north. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes, then get off at the stop 'Gettysburg Square'. From there, transfer to the 'Gettysburg Tours' shuttle service, which will take you directly to the Virginia Monument. The shuttle ride will take about 15 minutes.

• Train

  Start by walking to the Hagerstown Train Station located at 100 S Potomac St. Board the MARC Train on the Brunswick Line towards Washington, D.C. Get off at the 'Point of Rocks' station, which takes about 20 minutes. From Point of Rocks, take a taxi or rideshare service to Gettysburg, which will take approximately 30 minutes.

• Bicycle

  If you are feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Hagerstown. Head out of Hagerstown on MD-65 N and follow the bike-friendly routes towards Gettysburg. The ride is about 20 miles and will take approximately 2 hours, depending on your pace. Once you arrive in Gettysburg, follow signs leading to the Gettysburg National Military Park, where the Virginia Monument is located.

• Walking

  For those who prefer to walk, it is approximately a 20-mile trek from Hagerstown to Gettysburg. Start from the Hagerstown City Park, heading north on MD-65 N. The walk will take roughly 6 hours, so plan accordingly and bring water and snacks. Follow the road signs to Gettysburg, and once you arrive, the Virginia Monument is located within the Gettysburg National Military Park.
