From Laurel, head to the nearest bus stop for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus routes. You can catch the MTA Route 89 bus towards Greenbelt Station from the Laurel Town Center. Board the bus and enjoy the ride. You will need to get off at the stop at 'Laurel Shopping Center'. Once you get off, walk towards Route 197 (also known as Laurel-Bowie Road) and head south for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Scarlet Tanager Loop. Turn left onto Scarlet Tanager Loop, and you will find the National Wildlife Visitor Center at 10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop on your right.

If you prefer to ride a bicycle, you can start from the Laurel Town Center. Head east on Main Street until you reach Route 197. Turn left onto Route 197, and continue south. After about 2 miles, look for signs directing you to the Patuxent Research Refuge. When you reach Scarlet Tanager Loop, turn left and continue until you arrive at the National Wildlife Visitor Center at 10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow all traffic rules while cycling.

For those who enjoy walking, start from the Laurel Town Center. Walk along Main Street heading east for approximately 1 mile until you reach Route 197. Carefully cross Route 197 and continue south on the sidewalk. After about 1.5 miles, you will see signs for the Patuxent Research Refuge. When you reach Scarlet Tanager Loop, turn left and walk until you arrive at the National Wildlife Visitor Center at 10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop.
