Getting There

• Public Bus

  From the heart of Annapolis, head to the nearest bus stop. You can take the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Bus Route 70 toward Washington, DC. The bus departs from the West Street area, near the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. After approximately 30-40 minutes, get off at the last stop, which is the 'Silver Spring Metro Station.' From there, transfer to the Metro's Red Line toward Glenmont. Ride the Metro for about 15 minutes and get off at the 'Gallery Place-Chinatown' station. Exit the station and walk northeast along 8th Street NW for about 5 minutes until you reach G Street Northwest, where the Smithsonian American Art Museum is located.

• Walking

  If you are near the downtown area of Annapolis, you might consider walking to the museum. Walk towards the waterfront and then head northwest along Main Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with West Street. Turn left onto West Street and follow it until you reach the bus terminal. From there, you can take a public bus to Washington, DC as described above.

• Bicycle Rental

  You can rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops in Annapolis. Once you have your bike, head towards the B&A Trail, which connects to the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail. Follow the trail north toward Baltimore, which will eventually lead you into the urban areas of Washington, DC. As you reach the outskirts of the city, navigate toward G Street NW. Look for bike lanes to ensure a safe ride. It will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to bike to the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
