Getting There

  • Car

    From Sandy Point State Park, exit the park and turn left onto Sandy Point State Park Road. Continue to the traffic light and turn right onto Route 50 East. After about 4 miles, take Exit 25 for Route 2 South toward Annapolis. Follow Route 2 South for approximately 3 miles. When you reach the intersection with MD-100, turn left onto MD-100 East. After about 1 mile, take the exit for Route 177 toward Pasadena. Merge onto Route 177 and continue for about 2 miles. Turn right onto John Downs Loop, and Downs Park will be on your left. There is no entry fee for the park.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transportation, you will need to take the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus. Start by finding the nearest bus stop for the MTA Route 93 (which services Sandy Point State Park). Board the bus and ride towards the Glen Burnie station. At the Glen Burnie station, transfer to the MTA Route 14 bus heading towards Pasadena. After about a 30-minute ride, get off at the stop near Route 177 and John Downs Loop. From there, it is a 10-minute walk to Downs Park. Please check the MTA schedule for bus timings and possible fares, which are typically around $1.80 per ride.
