Getting There

Metro
Start at the Silver Spring Metro Station on the Red Line. Take the train towards Glenmont. Disembark at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station after 10 stops. At Gallery Place-Chinatown, transfer to the Yellow Line towards Huntington. Ride for 3 stops and get off at the King Street-Old Town station. From there, take the free King Street Trolley (look for the trolley stop signs) heading towards the waterfront. Get off at the last stop, then follow the signs to the Mount Vernon area which is about a 15-minute walk away.

From the Silver Spring Transit Center, take the Metrobus route 29N towards the 'Fort Washington' stop. Stay on the bus for about 30 minutes, then get off at the 'Mount Vernon' stop. You'll be right at the entrance of George Washington's Mount Vernon.

Bike
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from a local bike-share program. Start at the Silver Spring Metro Station and head southeast on Colesville Rd. Follow it until you reach the intersection with New Hampshire Ave. Continue on New Hampshire Ave until you see the signs for the Mount Vernon Trail. Follow the trail for approximately 12 miles, which will lead you directly to Mount Vernon.

If you are close enough, you can walk from Downtown Silver Spring. Head south on Georgia Avenue, continue until you reach the entrance of the Sligo Creek Parkway. Follow the parkway trail that leads south towards the Potomac River. The walk is approximately 5 miles and will take about 1.5 hours, but it offers a scenic route.
