Public Transit
From the Silver Spring Metro Station, take the Red Line towards Glenmont. Get off at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station (about 12 minutes). From there, transfer to the Yellow Line towards Huntington. After about 15 minutes, get off at the King Street-Old Town station. Once you exit the station, head towards the King Street Trolley stop. Take the trolley towards the waterfront, and disembark at the Mt. Vernon stop. You will be just a short walk to Mt. Vernon.
Bus
From the Silver Spring Transit Center, take the Metrobus Route 15 towards Alexandria. This will take approximately 50 minutes. Get off at the Mt. Vernon stop. Follow the signs to Mt. Vernon, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bike from a local rental shop. Head south on Georgia Avenue toward the Capital Crescent Trail. Take the trail towards Washington, DC, and continue along the Potomac River. Follow the signs towards Mt. Vernon, which is approximately a 10-mile ride. Enjoy the scenic views along the way!
Walking
If you prefer to walk and want to experience the area, start from the Silver Spring Metro Station. Walk south on Georgia Avenue, and then take a left onto East-West Highway. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Connecticut Avenue. From there, continue south on Connecticut Avenue until you reach the Potomac River. Follow the river path, which will lead you towards Mt. Vernon. This is a long walk, so be prepared with water and comfortable shoes.
