Metro
From anywhere in Silver Spring, head to the Silver Spring Metro Station located on Colesville Road. Take the Red Line train towards Glenmont. Stay on the train for 9 stops until you reach the King Street-Old Town station in Alexandria, VA. Once you exit the train, follow the signs to the King Street exit, which will lead you to the main street of Old Town.
Bus
Locate the nearest bus stop in Silver Spring that services the Metrobus routes. Take the Metrobus Route 29N or 29W towards the Springfield Town Center. After about 30 minutes, get off at the bus stop at the King Street and Washington Street intersection. From there, walk south on Washington Street for about 5 minutes, and you will reach the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
Bike
If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike from a bike-sharing service available in Silver Spring. Head towards the Capital Crescent Trail, which will take you south towards Alexandria. The trail is approximately 12 miles long and will lead you to the waterfront area of Old Town. Lock your bike at one of the bike racks once you arrive in Old Town.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and are located near the Capital Crescent Trail, you can walk along the trail heading south. This option is lengthy, as it is about 12 miles, but it offers a scenic view of the Potomac River. Once you reach Old Town, head to King Street to explore the shops, restaurants, and waterfront.
