Metro
From anywhere in Silver Spring, make your way to the Silver Spring Metro Station located at 8100 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Once there, take the Red Line train towards Glenmont. Stay on the train for 8 stops and get off at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station. From there, transfer to the Yellow Line or Green Line and take the train towards Branch Ave or Greenbelt. Get off at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station (1 stop). After exiting the station, walk towards 7th St SW and turn left. Continue walking until you reach G Street NW. The Smithsonian American Art Museum will be on your right at the intersection of G Street NW and 8th St NW.

Head to the nearest bus stop in Silver Spring. You can take the Metrobus Z2 or Z6 towards the Silver Spring Transit Center. Get off at the stop for Fenton St & Wayne Ave. From there, transfer to the Metrobus 70 towards Washington, DC. After about 18 minutes, get off at the 8th St NW & G St NW stop. The Smithsonian American Art Museum will be directly across the street.
