To reach Georges Island from Gloucester, start by making your way to the nearest ferry terminal. The closest terminal is located in Boston, which is accessible by public transportation. First, take the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) commuter rail from Gloucester Station on the Newburyport/Rockport Line towards North Station in Boston. The journey takes about 50 minutes. Once you arrive at North Station, follow signs to the 'Orange Line' subway and take the train towards Forest Hills. Get off at Haymarket Station, which is one stop away. From Haymarket, exit the station and walk towards the waterfront (approximately a 10-minute walk). You will find the ferry terminal at Long Wharf. Look for the ferry to Georges Island; the journey will take about 30 minutes. Enjoy your time on the island!
Bus and Ferry
Another option is to take a bus to Boston. From Gloucester, you can board the Cape Ann Transportation Authority (CATA) bus to the MBTA train station in Rockport. Once there, take the MBTA commuter rail to North Station in Boston. From North Station, switch to the Orange Line subway towards Forest Hills and get off at Haymarket Station. Walk to the Long Wharf ferry terminal, where you can board the ferry to Georges Island. The ferry ride will take approximately 30 minutes. This option may take longer but allows for scenic views along the way.
