Illuminating the Coast: West Chop Lighthouse

Getting There

• Public Bus

  From Hyannis, head to the Hyannis Transportation Center located at 215 Iyannough Rd. Catch the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority bus heading towards Vineyard Haven. The bus ride will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once you arrive at Tisbury, you will need to walk about 15 minutes to reach West Chop Lighthouse. Exit the bus and head north on Main St, then take a left on West Chop Rd. Continue on West Chop Rd until you reach the lighthouse.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Hyannis. Start at the Hyannis Main Street and head west on Main St towards Route 28. Follow Route 28 to the west and then turn onto State Rd heading towards Vineyard Haven. This route is approximately 10 miles and will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on your cycling speed. Once you get to Tisbury, look for West Chop Rd where you can lock your bike and walk to the lighthouse.

• Walking

  If you’re feeling adventurous and want to walk, start from Hyannis Main Street and head towards the ferry terminal. From the ferry terminal, follow the signs to Vineyard Haven. This is a long walk of about 10 miles and will take approximately 3 to 4 hours. Once in Tisbury, head towards West Chop Rd where you will find the West Chop Lighthouse. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water!

• Taxi or Rideshare

  For a more direct route, consider using a taxi or a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. Simply request a ride from your current location in Hyannis to West Chop Lighthouse in Tisbury. The drive will take approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to communicate clearly with your driver about the destination to ensure they take you directly to the lighthouse.
