Public Bus
To reach Fort Wetherill State Park from downtown New Bedford, start by walking to the nearest bus stop for the GATRA bus service. Take the bus that heads towards Fall River. After about 30 minutes, get off at the Fall River Terminal. Once there, transfer to the R.I. Public Transit bus that goes towards Jamestown. You'll need to disembark at the stop closest to Fort Wetherill, which is on Fort Wetherill Road. From the bus stop, it's a short 10-minute walk to the park entrance.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bicycle in New Bedford. Start by heading north on Route 18, following the bike lanes until you reach the bridge towards Swansea. Cross the bridge and continue on the bike path until you reach Route 138. Follow Route 138 north until you reach Jamestown. Once in Jamestown, look for signs directing you towards Fort Wetherill State Park. The park is located about a mile away from the center of Jamestown.
Walking
If you're already in Jamestown, you can walk to Fort Wetherill State Park. From the center of Jamestown, head northwest on North Main Street. Continue until you reach Fort Wetherill Road, where you will turn left. Follow Fort Wetherill Road for about half a mile, and you will see the park entrance on your right. It is a pleasant walk with scenic views.
Taxi or Rideshare
For a more direct route, consider using a taxi or rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. Simply open the app and set your destination to 'Fort Wetherill State Park, 3 Fort Wetherill Rd, Jamestown, RI 02835.' The driver will take you directly to the park entrance, which makes for a convenient option if you have luggage or want to avoid public transport.
