Getting There

  • Pedestrian

    From the center of New Bedford, head east on Union Street toward Purchase Street. Continue on Purchase Street until you reach the waterfront. Once you are at the water, follow the waterfront path to the ferry terminal located at 3 Fisherman's Wharf. Purchase a ticket for the ferry to Newport. The ferry ride takes about 1 hour and drops you off at the Newport Harbor. After disembarking, walk along America's Cup Avenue, then take a right onto Washington Street. The Rose Island Lighthouse will be on your left at 1 Washington St.

    Begin at the New Bedford Whaling Museum located at 18 Johnny Cake Hill. Walk to the nearest bus stop at the corner of Williams Street and Union Street. Take the MTA 10 bus towards Fall River. Get off at the Fall River terminal and transfer to the Peter Pan bus to Newport, which operates frequently. Once you arrive in Newport, walk down America's Cup Avenue to Washington Street, and you will find the Rose Island Lighthouse at 1 Washington St.
