If you're driving from downtown Newburyport, head southwest on State Street toward Merrimack Street. Turn right onto Merrimack Street, then merge onto MA-1A S. Continue for about 11 miles, following signs for Marblehead. Take the exit toward Marblehead/Route 114. Merge onto Pleasant Street and continue straight. Turn left onto Fort Sewall Lane. Fort Sewall will be at the end of the road. There is parking available nearby, and it’s free.

To reach Fort Sewall via public transportation, take the MBTA Commuter Rail from Newburyport to Salem Station. The fare is approximately $7. Once at Salem Station, transfer to the MBTA bus route 441 toward Marblehead. The bus fare is about $1.75. Ride the bus until you reach the stop at Fort Sewall. From there, it’s a short walk to the fort itself, located at 8 Fort Sewall Lane. Be sure to check the MBTA schedule for bus and train times, as they can vary.

For those who prefer to bike, start from downtown Newburyport and head south on the Newburyport Rail Trail, which connects to the coastal roads leading to Marblehead. Be cautious of traffic as you approach the fort, and there are bike racks available for parking.
