Granary Burying Ground: A Step into Boston's Rich History

Getting There

• Bus

  If you're starting from Waltham, head to the nearest bus stop for the MBTA bus service. You can catch the 553 or 554 bus towards Alewife Station. Ride the bus until you reach Alewife Station (approximately 30-40 minutes). From Alewife, transfer to the Red Line subway towards Ashmont/Braintree, and get off at Park Street Station (around 15-20 minutes). Once you exit Park Street Station, head northeast on Tremont Street for about 5 minutes, and you'll find the Granary Burying Ground located at 0 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02108.

• Train

  From Waltham, walk to the Waltham MBTA train station. Take the Fitchburg Line train towards North Station. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at North Station, follow the signs to the Haymarket subway station and switch to the Green Line towards Copley. Get off at Copley Station and transfer to the Orange Line towards Oak Grove. Travel to Haymarket Station (1 stop). From Haymarket, walk southeast along Blackstone Street, then turn right onto Tremont Street. The Granary Burying Ground will be on your left after a short walk.

• Walking

  If you are near the center of Waltham, you can walk to the nearest bus stop to catch a bus to Boston. However, if you prefer to walk, you can take a scenic route by following the Charles River Greenway. Walk along the river until you reach the Watertown Bridge, cross the bridge, and continue straight until you reach Arsenal Street. From there, you can catch an MBTA bus that goes towards Boston and get off at Park Street Station. Walk northeast on Tremont Street for about 5 minutes to reach the Granary Burying Ground.
