Rhumerie - well worth a visit.

Visited here today with my husband. The surrounding gardens are beautiful, of which we had a look around until our guided tour started. They offer tours in English and French. The process of rum making was explained in detail, each stage being clearly visible, the sugar fields and machinery used to process the sugar. Then came the rum tasting….no fewer than 10 rums to try. I especially liked the banana, passion fruit and Christmas rums. Some are potent as you are trying them neat, I advise taking your time to let the rum sit on the palette. Having been on the island for 10 days we have already sampled their coconut and vanilla rums which are also very nice and lovely with mixers and ice. After the tasting we had lunch in the restaurant, both opting for the chicken ravioli which was lovely, it came with bread and butter too. All staff were lovely.

An absolutely fabulous tour and experience! Our guide Kunal made it and created the most wonderful experience from start to finish. Kunal had already arrived at the time of departure from my hotel and had a spacious, clean and safe car. He was a very safe driver and incredibly respectful and knowledgeable. Kunal made sure we were always comfortable, the tour would be to our liking and explained everything with so much knowledge and facts. He came with us to every location and we were never rushed at all and took time to give us tips and knowledge. He always offered to take photos at every beautiful photo spot and allowed us to make the most memorable memories in Mauritius. The south tour is full of very interesting sightseeing opportunities and key cultural and religious sites. It is important to note that you need to pay for the Rhumerie and Coloured Sands separately.
